Iraq ranks at the bottom of the ranking of the most peaceful countries in the world in 2023

Shafaq News/ Iraq rose three ranks as the most peaceful country during the year 2023, according to the Index of the International Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).
In a report seen by Shafaq News agency, the institute said, "During the past 15 years, global calm has decreased to more than 3%, and old and new conflicts, the pandemic, and political and cultural polarization are the main culprits."
According to the report, “163 independent countries and territories comprise 99.7% of the world’s population. The ranking, which is based on 23 indicators grouped into three criteria (societal safety and security; extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict; and degree of militarization), shows 84 countries recording improvement and 79 countries showing improvement.” deteriorating.”
According to the report, "Iraq recorded a rise of three ranks, as it moved from the 154th rank for the year 2022 to the 157th rank during the year 2023 as the most peaceful country, but it remained in the last ranks in the classification."
Globally, "Iceland ranked first, followed by Denmark second, followed by Ireland third, then Switzerland came fourth, then Austria came fifth, while the countries appended to Afghanistan were preceded by Yemen, Syria, South Sudan, Congo, Russia, Ukraine, Somalia, Sudan, and then Iraq."
In the Arab world, Qatar ranked first and 21st in the world, Kuwait ranked second in the Arab world and 35th in the world, Oman came third in the Arab world and 48th in the world, Jordan came fourth in the Arab world and 62nd in the world, and the UAE came fifth in the Arab world and 75th in the world.
