    Shafaq News/ The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed on Thursday that Iraq is still one of the countries with the most missing and absentees.  



    Avin Yassin, the committee's media director in the Kurdistan Region, said in a press conference attended by the Shafaq News Agency reporter; The committee has exchanged 4,252 messages between prisoners in Iraqi prisons and their families during the current year. 
    She added, "28 thousand and 892 missing persons files are still open in Iraq, and during the year 2022, 1477 missing persons files were searched for and 678 files were responded to. As for 2023, the committee examined 994 files, 171 of them were responded to, and 5 missing persons were returned to their families." 
    And about the missing in the Iran-Iraq war, Yassin said; "There is a joint committee between the two sides to return the remains of the soldiers, as during the year 2022 the remains of 236 Iranian soldiers were returned to their country and the remains of 45 Iraqi soldiers were returned from Iran. During the current year, the remains of 71 Iranian soldiers were returned to their country and the remains of 4 Iraqi soldiers were returned from Iran."
