    Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi announced on Thursday that his country intends to extend a railway line from the Iranian Kurdistan province to the Bashmakh border crossing in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

    A source in the city of Sanandaj (the center of Kurdistan Province, western Iran) reported today, Thursday (November 2, 2023), the inauguration of the “Hamdan-Sanandaj” railway.
    The source told the Iranian news agency "IRNA", "The Hamedan-Sanandaj railway project (western Iran) is one of the development projects that were approved during the era of previous governments, and the first phase of it has entered into implementation, starting from Tehran to Hamedan and ending before... 4 years, and the second phase linking Hamadan to the city of Sanandaj began two years ago and will be inaugurated today, under the auspices of the Iranian President, who arrived in the Kurdistan Governorate in the west of the country in the morning.” 
    According to media reports, “This project aims to enhance and facilitate rail transport within the country, including the transport of passengers and goods to and from western Iran. Its capacity is currently estimated at 300,000 passengers and 500,000 tons annually.” 
    Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived this morning in the Kurdistan Governorate to meet with the citizens of this western governorate, and to follow up on the approved and scheduled development projects, including the inauguration of 16 huge projects.
