    Baghdad today - Sulaymaniyah
As the date of the provincial council elections approaches, political blocs, including the Kurdish ones, are racing to obtain votes in the disputed areas, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan seeks to regain power in Kirkuk Governorate.
A member of the Leadership Council of the National Union, Latif Nairoye, confirmed today, Friday (November 24, 2023), that his party is still present in the disputed areas, especially in Khanaqin, Tuz Khurmatu, Makhmour, Kirkuk, Mosul Center, and Sinjar.
In an interview with "Baghdad Today", Nairwi said, "The National Union seeks to obtain good votes in these elections and work to restore power in Kirkuk Governorate, especially since it was effective in running the governorate previously."
He added, "This time he wants to regain power again in Kirkuk and change the current administration, and for this new administration to represent all the components and not one component," stressing that "the National Union wants to have a role in managing the new governorate according to its electoral entitlement."
Nairoye pointed out that "the Union wants the new administration to be service-based and not differentiate between one region and another, and also to obtain high votes in Nineveh Governorate and to participate in the administration of Nineveh Governorate, to work on addressing the problem of Sinjar District because it is very large."
He stated that "the displaced people of Sinjar, who are more than 160 thousand, have not yet returned to their areas and are still in the governorates of Kurdistan, and communication with these areas is still difficult."
He pointed out that "services and reconstruction in Sinjar are still below the required level, with a strong conflict between some parties and factions there. Therefore, the National Union can address these problems if it participates and enters into the administration of Nineveh Governorate."
He noted that "the National Union does not want to address Sinjar's problems using force, but rather through understanding and agreement, and that it should be for everyone and not for one part of them against another," explaining that "the upcoming elections are very important for the Union and we want to participate strongly in them, and to have a role in managing the regions." disputed and alongside all components.”
On (November 18, 2023), the representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Nineveh Governorate, Shirwan Dobardani, confirmed that the Kurds are seeking to correct the course in the upcoming provincial council elections .
Dobardani told “Baghdad Today” that “the Kurds were subjected to harassment and rights violations in the disputed areas, and their presence and popular and political weight were not taken into account . ”
He added, "In these elections and after them, we seek to restore the rights of the constituents that were taken away, and to overturn the results in our favor, and we have the strength and popular will . "
Dobardani stressed, “The next step is to restore the positions that are our right and were taken from the component . ”
The Iraqi provinces are preparing to run in the local council elections on (December 18, 2023), while the Kurdish parties in the disputed areas are racing to win the largest number of votes, while Barzani’s party has its eye on Kirkuk and the position of governor there .
