The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities is coordinating with the company executing the project to construct the Tala’i Bridge and the Sunni Endowment, for the purpose of removing the conflicts that stand in the way of its construction, including part of the Sheikh Marouf cemetery.
The Ministry’s official spokesman, Engineer Nabil Al-Saffar, told Al-Sabah: The project to construct the aforementioned bridge comes within the projects of the first package to relieve traffic congestion that the Ministry recently launched, indicating that the project includes connecting the bridge to Al-Baijiyah Street (Street 80), located near the Heritage College, passing through a cemetery. Sheikh Marouf and Muthanna Airport.
He pointed out that the ministry found, during the stage of inspections and conducting a survey on the site of the bridge track, a number of discrepancies in the cemetery of Sheikh Marouf, including an event hall, a charitable kitchen, and some shops and residential homes, which requires the removal of some graves after discussions with the Sunni Endowment, clerics, and specialized engineers, stressing At the same time, the Ministry has not removed any grave yet, nor has it decided on the issue finally, since the designs determine that, in addition to the fact that the graves that will be moved are the only ones that conflict with the pillars required to construct the bridge, which will be built in long spaces, for the purpose of reducing Of the number of graves to be moved.
Al-Saffar noted that the Ministry will be responsible for transporting the remains to a new cemetery under the supervision of clerics and religious bodies, in accordance with the controls of Islamic Sharia and agreement with the relevant authorities.
He stated that the implementing company is now working on preparing the initial designs for the project, after which it will begin the detailed designs after removing the existing conflicts and approving them by the consulting company, noting that it is also planning to construct another bridge extending from Al-Baijiyah to Al-Liqa Street.
