The spokesman for the Sovereignty Party, MP Khaled Al-Mafarji, confirmed today, Thursday (December 7, 2023), the continuation of political dialogues in order to resolve the choice of the new Speaker of Parliament .
Al-Mufarji said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “dialogues between all political forces are continuing in order to speed up the selection of a president for Parliament in the coming days, and there is a possibility in that, to reduce the intensity of differences .”
He added, "Deciding the election of the new speaker of the House of Representatives before the provincial council elections depends on the results of the ongoing dialogues between all parties. It is possible that this issue will be resolved within the next few days or postponed until after the elections. This matter will become clear very soon ."
Last Wednesday, the House of Representatives postponed the session to elect a new president until further notice, due to a lack of consensus on the new candidate for the position .
On November 14, the Federal Court in Iraq ruled to terminate Al-Halbousi’s membership in Parliament, against the backdrop of a lawsuit filed by a parliamentarian in which he was accused of forging his resignation from Parliament, with the aim of exerting pressure on him.
