Education allows the first private university to open postgraduate studies

, teachers at various universities in the country welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to open postgraduate studies in private colleges after Al-Mustaqbal University obtained its approval to study a master’s degree.
The Ministry had granted approval to the University of the Future and the Malaysian USM University to obtain a master’s degree (Electronics Systems Design Engineering) exclusively at private expense, starting from the next academic year (2024-2025), as the certificate is granted by the USM University while teaching and supervision will be at the University of the Future. This is the first program at the Iraqi university level.
The program official at the university, Assistant Professor Dr. Hamza Muhammad Redha, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: The program includes learning about the latest theoretical and practical aspects of designing electronic systems and advanced computing technologies, as the study will be a joint course and research study simultaneously with the program offered
at the USM University of Malaysia.
He noted that the tuition fees depend on the academic units, and among the requirements for completing the study is entry into an English language course at a certain level and the LELTS or TOFEL. He noted that the specialization will accommodate bachelor’s degree holders in computer engineering techniques, information technology, communications, and electronics.
In turn, a lecturer at one of the private colleges, Dr. Majeed Hamid Al-Jubouri, explained in his interview with “Al-Sabah”: The Ministry’s decision to open postgraduate studies will contribute to improving the practical reality and enhancing scientific sobriety, pointing out that the decision has scientific and economic dimensions by preserving hard currency from being exported to... Outside the country, in addition to providing job opportunities for graduates and professors, privately or publicly, in addition to paving the way for scientific research for the purpose of increasing research, stressing the importance of tightening oversight procedures by the Ministry of Education and appointing specialized professors
to enhance scientific sobriety.
For her part, Dr. Sabreen Khazal Hammadi, a lecturer at Al-Mustansiriya University, stated in her interview with “Al-Sabah”: The ministry must establish procedures and controls that do not differ from those followed in government colleges regarding competitive testing and the minimum limits for the bachelor’s average, as well as academic titles in teaching and supervision.
Hammadi stressed that the decision must include the rest of the specializations gradually, with the aim of reducing study outside the country, which sometimes forces the Ministry to recognize their certificates without any conditions compared to their counterparts inside the country, such as competitive testing, the number of study units,
and distance learning.
It is noteworthy that USM University is one of the Malaysian public universities, classified within the Shanghai classification in the 601-700 series, the British Times classification in the 401-500 series, the American US NEWS classification in the 504th global ranking, and the British QS classification in the 137th global ranking.
