Today, Monday, the General Traffic Directorate set the date for imposing fines recorded by smart cameras, while revealing the types of violations.
Public Traffic spokesman Brigadier General Ziad Al-Qaisi said, “The issue of smart cameras at intersections is still being tested,” stressing that “the cameras’ job is to monitor violations on internal roads, and no fine has been recorded so far.”
He explained, "Traffic violations regarding cameras placed on internal roads will include imposing a fine for not wearing a seat belt for the driver and the passenger next to him, in addition to overtaking on the right side, obstructing traffic, and using a mobile phone, in addition to not clear traffic signs and driving in the opposite direction."
He added, "The smart cameras will be activated after they are completed at all intersections, and it is hoped that they will be announced within the next few days," pointing out that "the Traffic Directorate is working to link the fine platform to the Ur website, and thus send a text message to the citizen via phone in the event of a violation."
