Advanced completion rates in the berths of the Grand Faw Port

The Ministry of Transport announced advanced steps in completing the five berth projects for the Grand Faw Port, indicating that major Chinese companies submitted their technical offers for the establishment of Container Terminal No. (2) as part of the port expansion projects.
The Director General of the General Company for Ports, Farhan Al-Fartusi, told Al-Sabah: “The completion rate in the five berths project in Al-Faw Port reached more than (85 percent), while in Berth No. (2) it reached 100 percent,” and he stated that “it was completed.” Installing 2,072 bridge housings at the designated location.
He added, "The projects are proceeding at a high and increasing pace, without any delay, and at advanced rates compared to what was planned. This includes the construction of the container terminal for the Grand Al-Faw Port, which is one of the five projects of the project. It also includes the construction of five giant berths for unloading ships with a length of (1,750) meters, and the establishment of a container yard along (2000) meters, as well as the 62 km highway bridges next to the city of Umm Qasr, which connects the city of Al-Faw and the city of Umm Qasr, one of the port’s infrastructure projects.”
He pointed out that "the past few days also witnessed the completion of the entire section of covering the piles with concrete plaster within the five berths project in the Grand Al-Faw Port," indicating that "this section represents external protection for the piles that are most vulnerable to environmental conditions."
In a related context, Al-Fartusi revealed, “The global investment giant, the Chinese Company (CCCC), presented in Shanghai the technical offer for the establishment of Container Terminal No. (2), which is planned to be established within the expansion projects of the Grand Al-Faw Port,” and explained that “the senior management of the General Company for Ports of Iraq met Last week with the Chinese company during a visit to its headquarters in Shanghai, where the profile of the company and its affiliated companies was reviewed. He stated, "During their visit, the Iraqi delegation was briefed on the work of one of the largest companies specialized in the field of manufacturing handling devices for the Chinese Company (ZPMC), which specializes in the field of manufacturing and equipping handling equipment on berths and yards, as well as manufacturing and equipping bridge cranes with various loads for all ports around the world."
He continued: "We expressed a desire to open horizons of cooperation between the two companies through the Chinese company (ZPMC) submitting its own offer to prepare the equipment required to operate the first phase of the Grand Al-Faw Port, and that the Chinese side welcomed cooperation with the General Company for Ports of Iraq."
Al-Fartusi confirmed, “The Grand Al-Faw Port project is being personally monitored by Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, his office, and the teams and committees formed to support the completion of the project according to the planned timelines and technical specifications.”
Pointing out, “The project, thanks to Al-Sudani’s careful follow-up, is witnessing the achievement of advanced completion rates on the ground compared to what is included in the project’s time plans.”
