    Economy News - Baghdad

[rtl]Today, Tuesday, member of the Parliamentary Water and Marshlands Committee, Thaer al-Jubouri, held the Iraqi government responsible for negotiating with Turkey regarding the water issue, while it touched on the salt tongue in Basra.[/rtl]

[rtl]Al-Jubouri said, in an interview followed by “Al-Eqtisad News,” that “the rise of the local tongue occurs as a result of the receding water that comes to the Shatt al-Arab through the Tigris, Euphrates, and Karun rivers, and these rivers are currently suffering from an interruption in their water releases and a significant decline in their waters.”[/rtl]

[rtl]Al-Jubouri added, "The government bears responsibility for negotiating with Turkey and Iran," calling for "special negotiations with Iran regarding the Karun River, which has become a source of salty water flowing into the Shatt al-Arab."[/rtl]

[rtl]He continued, "It is not possible to treat and alleviate the salt tongue without increasing water releases, which is the only thing capable of stopping its spread in Basra."[/rtl]

[rtl]The salinity level often rises in the summer due to the water scarcity that Iraq has been witnessing for years due to drought and the decline in water releases.[/rtl]
