    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday (January 24, 2024), the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasul Abdullah, called on the international community to assume its responsibility in supporting peace and security and preventing abuses that threaten Iraq’s stability and sovereignty.
Rasoul said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "In a clear determination to harm security and stability in Iraq, the United States is returning to carry out air strikes against the locations of Iraqi military units from the army and the Popular Mobilization Forces, in the areas of Jurf al-Nasr and al-Qaim."
He added: "At a time when the understandings regarding the role and tasks of the members of the international coalition and its advisors present in Iraq have taken a positive step towards organizing the future relationship, we find these actions being committed to obstruct this path, and to harm all agreements and axes of joint security cooperation."
Rasoul stressed, “This unacceptable act undermines years of cooperation, blatantly violates Iraq’s sovereignty, and leads to an irresponsible escalation, at a time when the region is suffering from the danger of expanding conflict, the repercussions of the aggression against Gaza, and the consequences of the immoral war of extermination that the Palestinian people are facing.” .
He continued: While the great powers, including the United States, remained silent regarding these crimes, we see them sliding into condemnable and unjustified acts of aggression against Iraqi territory and national sovereignty.
Rasoul stressed, "At a time when we will deal with these operations as acts of aggression, and we will take everything that duty dictates and what responsibility requires, in order to preserve the lives of Iraqis and their dignity on the safe and stable land of our country, thanks to the great sacrifices made by our people."
He concluded by saying: “Mercy and honor to those who became a martyr as a result of this attack, and a speedy recovery to the wounded.”
Earlier today, US Central Command announced that US forces bombed Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq.
The command said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "In response to the attacks launched by the Iranian-backed Kataib Hezbollah militia, including the attack on Al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq on January 20, and on January 24 at 12:15 a.m., forces launched... US Central Command conducted unilateral air strikes against three facilities used by the Iranian-backed Kataib Hezbollah militia and other Iranian-affiliated groups in Iraq.
She added, "These strikes targeted the Hezbollah Brigades headquarters, missile and missile storage and training sites, and unidirectional attack drone capabilities."
The American ABC reported today, Wednesday (January 24, 2024), that the four soldiers are in a “dangerous” condition and that American forces have launched ongoing “response strikes” in Iraq.
Before that, a security source reported that an American plane launched an air strike targeting a military base belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces within the Jurf al-Nasr district, north of Babil Governorate.
The source told "Baghdad Today", "The base was subjected to an air strike with five missiles at the military college inside Jurf al-Nasr and the operations headquarters north of Babylon."
For its part, Babylon Health Ministry announced that ambulances were heading to the accident in Jurf Al-Nasr.
Meanwhile, Voice of America quoted Pentagon officials, saying, “Sites belonging to factions linked to Iran were targeted in Iraq in response to the injury of four American soldiers in an attack carried out by those factions on the Ain al-Assad base.”
