    Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - Member of the Iraqi Parliament, Siban Sherwani, confirmed today, Sunday, February 11, 2024, that the House of Representatives does not have the authority to end the missions of the coalition forces in the country.
    Sherwani said in an interview with Kurdistan 24, "The issue of ending the tasks of the international coalition forces in Iraq falls within the powers of the federal government, not the House of Representatives."
    He pointed out, "According to Article Eight of the Iraqi Constitution, the Council of Ministers has the authority to conclude international treaties and agreements, not Parliament, so the House of Representatives cannot end the coalition mission, nor does it have that authority."
    Sherwani explained, "Ending the mission of the international coalition against ISIS (is not an easy task), and it is unlikely that they will leave the country soon."
    He pointed out that "most political parties in Iraq believe that Iraq still needs the military and intelligence capabilities of the coalition countries, especially the United States, so it is possible to change the nature of their work in the future."
    The member of the Iraqi House of Representatives considered that ending the coalition’s missions in Iraq would be a “wrong act,” noting: “It will also have a negative impact on the security and stability of Iraq, and its political and economic standing at the international level.”
    He said, "Until now, ISIS still poses a threat to Iraq's security, so the country still needs the international coalition to remain in place to prevent the organization from returning again."
    On Saturday, February 10, 2024, the Iraqi Council of Representatives held a deliberative session to condemn the violation of Iraqi sovereignty.
    After the session, a statement issued by the Media Department of the House of Representatives stated, “Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, referred a request signed by more than 100 representatives to the (Legal, Security, and Defense) committees regarding a proposed law to remove foreign forces from Iraq.”
    The statement indicated that "Al-Mandalawi called on the government to implement House of Representatives Resolution No. (18) of 2020 regarding the removal of foreign forces and the end of their duties in Iraq, based on the development of Iraqi security capabilities, and the absence of any new agreement with foreign forces that requires them to remain."
