The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, confirmed on Saturday the desire of Iraq and the region to strengthen cooperation with the United States of America.[/size]
[size=45]This came while he received a delegation from America consisting of Senator Joni Ernst, Senator Ted Budd and a number of their entourage, according to a statement issued by the region’s presidency.[/size]
[size=45]The statement stated that the meeting discussed the development of American relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the problems between Erbil and Baghdad, discussions to resolve them, and the situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in general.[/size]
[size=45]According to the statement, the delegation renewed the United States’ continued support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, noting that the United States, as an ally, attaches great importance to its relations with the Kurdistan Region. They also praised the role of the Peshmerga forces in defeating ISIS and maintaining peace and stability in Iraq.[/size]
[size=45]For his part, President Nechirvan Barzani thanked the US Senate and Congress for their continued support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, stressing the desire of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to enhance cooperation and mutual relations with the United States.[/size]
[size=45]Several other issues of common interest were another focus of the meeting, which was attended by the US Ambassador to Iraq and the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.[/size]
