    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The Federal Integrity Commission confirmed today, Thursday (May 30, 2024), that it did not interfere in the investigative case opened by the National Security Directorate in Basra against the director of the Investigation Department of the Commission’s investigation office in the governorate.
The Commission stated in a statement, received by “Baghdad Today”, that “based on the constitutional rule (Iraqis are equal before the law), it is not surprising that legal measures have been taken against any member of the Federal Integrity Commission or members of other authorities or institutions in the state, when it is attributed to commit a specific crime.”
She added, “On this basis, the Federal Integrity Commission did not interfere in the investigative case opened by the National Security Directorate in Basra against the director of the Investigation Department of the Commission’s Investigation Directorate in the province, who automatically surrendered himself to it as soon as he learned that an arrest warrant had been issued against him by the judge of the Third Basra Investigation Court.” The specialist in examining national security cases and his decision to detain him from the date of his extradition to (5/28/2024), where he decided to release him on bail.”
The Commission continued, “The decision to open the case against the aforementioned person, arrest him, and then release him from detention on bail, is a judicial decision that falls within the discretionary authority of the competent investigating judge, and the Federal Integrity Commission has nothing to do with it.”
She stated, “While the Commission appreciates the role of the Iraqi judiciary in extending the authority of the law, it adheres to and respects all judicial decisions, whether they are issued in investigative cases filed against its members by other investigative bodies, or in corruption cases investigated by its investigators under the supervision of Dear competent investigative judges, it applies it without discussion, due to its high confidence in the Iraqi judiciary, and in compliance with the principle of “separation of powers.”
It explained that it is “conducting its administrative investigations regarding the accusation attributed to him, and will adopt the findings of the judicial investigations in this regard.”
