Today, Friday, on the 155th anniversary of Press Day, President Abdel Latif Gamal Rashid stressed the necessity of providing support and legislation guaranteeing freedom of opinion and expression.
The President of the Republic said in his blog post on the X website, “On the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the Iraqi Press Day, and the publication of Al-Zawraa newspaper in 1869 as the first newspaper in Iraq, we extend our warmest congratulations and blessings to the Iraqi journalistic family.”
He added, “While we value the efforts of Iraqi journalists, especially those who sacrificed themselves in order to convey the truth to public opinion,” we affirm “the noble mission and lofty message of journalists in exercising their national media role in serving citizens’ issues and adopting their legitimate demands, in addition to the effective oversight role that The press undertakes it as an essential part of our democratic system.”
The President of the Republic stressed "the necessity of providing support and legislation guaranteeing freedom of opinion and expression, in accordance with professional and objective standards."
