The head of the Kurdistan Social Democratic Party, Muhammad Haj Mahmoud, today, Friday, praised the recent visit made by the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, to Iran and his meeting with senior officials there, most notably the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Hajj Mahmoud, known in Kurdish popular circles as “Kaka Hama,” said in a statement to the Kurdish-language Voice of America radio, that “after Nechirvan Barzani’s visit to Iran, he was able to thaw the ice that had been felt in relations between Iran and the Kurdistan Region for a period of time.” .
Regarding President Nechirvan Barzani’s meeting with the Supreme Leader, Kaka Hama said, “It is not easy for some heads of other countries to see the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but we saw how the President of the Kurdistan Region was welcomed and received by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.”
He added, "Both the Kurdistan Region and Iran have come to believe that they need each other."
At the beginning of last May, the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq made an official visit to Iran, during which he met with Iranian Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the late Iranian President Ayatollah Ibrahim Raisi, and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, in addition to other senior officials.
During his meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei, the President of the Region expressed the Kurdistan Region's readiness and desire to strengthen relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields.
