Widespread condemnation of the American abuse of Judge Zidane

Official, political and academic bodies continued to denounce and condemn the attempt by a member of the US Congress to undermine the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zidane, by submitting a draft law in this direction. These bodies stressed that the Supreme Judicial Council represents a symbol of Iraqi sovereignty and that insulting it cannot be overlooked.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Mohammed Ali Tamim said in a statement: “The Iraqi Judicial Council represents a fundamental pillar of stability and ensuring justice in Iraq, and it is a symbol of the country’s sovereignty.” He added that “any tampering with it represents a blatant tampering with this sovereignty,” stressing that “the Iraqi government will take all legal and political measures to stop such violations against the Iraqi Judicial Council.”
As for the head of the parliamentary rights bloc, MP Saud Al-Saadi, he said in a statement: “The Iraqi Foreign Ministry must summon the American ambassador and hand her a memorandum of protest against these violations that do not respect the country’s sovereignty and the independence of the judiciary.”
Al-Saadi called on the judiciary to "suspend meetings with American officials under any title unless an official apology is presented or a statement is issued absolving the American official responsibility for these statements."
The Accountability and Justice Commission said in a statement, “The allegations promoted by a member of the US Congress against the person of the head of the judiciary and its members will not diminish the respect, appreciation and status of the protectors of the law who were known for their loyalty to Iraq and worked hard and sincerely to maintain the course of justice in the new Iraq and guarantee rights and freedoms.” "For all Iraqis without distinction of their affiliations or sects."
In turn, the head of the Committee of Deans of Law in Iraqi Universities and Dean of the College of Law at the University of Babylon, Dr. Miri Kazim Al-Khaikani, said in an interview with Al-Sabah: “What has been circulated about the intention of a member of the US Congress to propose a draft law with the aim of undermining a national figure such as the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Dr. Faiq Zidane, who represents the top of the judicial pyramid of the Iraqi state, is a blatant and clear violation of the principles of Iraq’s sovereignty and judicial independence.”
He pointed out that "there is no text, whether in international agreements approved nationally according to domestic law or through the rules of international law, to interfere in the judicial authority of another country. Therefore, according to the legal and specific framework, we condemn and denounce this blatant interference and abuse of the head of the judicial authority with the existing direction of the US Congress, which represents a violation of Iraqi sovereignty," calling on "the official channels represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Iraqi government to intervene to put an end to this dangerous precedent of interference in internal affairs and violation of the rules of international law."
For his part, the director of the Integrity Monitoring Organization, Abdul Razzaq Al-Sultani, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “These ongoing interventions have not been met with direct deterrence, and the statements of the American Congressman against the Iraqi judiciary represented by Judge Faiq Zaidan are nothing but a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, so we must The government responded in a manner appropriate to this blatant violation, which indicates weak crisis management and confusion in making decisions that directly affect the formulation of Iraqi policy.”
