The State of Law Coalition confirmed, on Tuesday, that Al-Maliki's call for early elections is still valid, noting that the call was not discussed in the State Administration meeting yesterday, Monday, at the government palace, due to Al-Maliki's absence from the meeting.
Coalition member Saad Al-Mutalibi said in a statement, “The call of the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki, to hold early elections is still valid, and there are many political parties that have expressed their support for the call through their meetings with the leader of the coalition, but they have not issued an official position.”
He added that "the aim of the call is the need to reform the political situation, as well as the need to reform the electoral process," indicating that "the call was not discussed in the state administration meeting yesterday, Monday, at the government palace because of Maliki's absence from the meeting."
He explained that "the difference of opinion between the political forces regarding whether or not to accept the invitation is a natural and healthy matter and can be resolved through political agreement or by political reality."
Nouri al-Maliki, the head of the State of Law Coalition, called for early parliamentary elections in the country by the end of this year, 2024, stressing that al-Sudani’s government is obligated to do so within his electoral program, stressing the need to prevent government officials from participating in them unless they resign from their positions.
