Criticisms of the Aqaba-Basra pipeline are being met with the insistence of Al-Sudani’s government to implement the project, which many have described as American dictates for the benefit of the Jordanian economy, which will take on the responsibility of smuggling Basra oil to the Zionist entity. According to specialists, the project will not bring economic benefit to Iraq, but will burden the Iraqi budget with imaginary sums, and the result will be American satisfaction with Al-Sudani’s government.
Iraq will lose no less than $55 million annually as a result of implementing the Aqaba pipeline project, compared to global oil prices, due to the preferential privileges that will be granted to Jordan.
Speaking about this file, Ibrahim Al-Sakini, a member of the State of Law Coalition, criticizes the government’s procedures regarding the implementation of the Aqaba pipeline, stressing that shame will follow it if the project is implemented.
Al-Sakini said in a statement, “If Al-Sudani implements the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project, shame will follow him throughout his life, as the project is rejected by the people and politically and comes under American dictates,” noting that “the project is contrary to Islamic traditions as it will go to the occupying Zionist entity.”
He added, "The American dictates to implement the project and its promise to the government for a second term are nothing but deceptive American methods to advance its interests."
Former Member of Parliament, Hassan Shaker, had confirmed in an interview that the Aqaba pipeline is the beginning of Iraq’s introduction into a normalization project with the Zionist entity, adding that “the project will not achieve the minimum economic feasibility for the country.”
In this regard, economic expert Ahmed Abdul Rabbo called on the Iraqi government to benefit from the Aqaba pipeline funds by developing the southern ports and other economic projects.
Abdul Rabbo said in a statement, “The Aqaba pipeline project will not be profitable for Iraq, and without any significant economic benefit,” noting that “developing the southern ports and linking the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline is more important than it.”
He added, "The government must abandon oil projects and look for other economic resources, such as investing in clean energy and desalination of seawater," noting that "the Aqaba project will burden the state due to the material losses it will cause and will not generate a single dirham."
Al-Fatah Coalition member, Salam Al-Zubaidi, said that the Aqaba pipeline project, if built, would be very important to the economy of the Zionist entity and there is an urgent need to avoid this project and prevent its harm to Iraq. End 25/J
