Baghdad/Al-Masala Event: Recently, criticism has increased regarding the influence of foreign lobbies and companies inside the United States on Iraq’s internal affairs.
The names of the lobbies and foreign companies involved were not precisely identified in the available statements.
However, it is known that there are many lobbies and companies operating in Washington that have interests in the Middle East, including Iraq. These lobbies often include oil and energy companies, defense companies, and political pressure groups that seek to influence American policies to serve their interests.
MP Hussein Arab considered that these lobbies seek to undermine the independence and professionalism of the Iraqi judiciary, which raises great concerns about foreign interference in the Iraqi judicial system.
In this context, the Republican Party in the US Congress has submitted a new proposal aimed at classifying a number of Iraqi leaders, including the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zeidan, as tools of Iranian influence in Iraq. This proposal reflects the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran and their impact on Iraq, as Washington considers some Iraqi leaders to be following Iranian agendas.
MP Arab said in a tweet on the “X” platform: The problem of the interference of lobbies and companies abroad and the payment of money with the aim of influencing the Iraqi judiciary has become a serious problem that threatens the sovereignty of the state and constitutional institutions.
Arab added that these dangerous practices have become meaningless and tasteless, as the Iraqi judiciary stands firmly against any attempts to undermine its independence and impartiality.
He warned of the danger of these practices to security and stability in Iraq, calling on the House of Representatives to take a firm and clear stance against those who try to undermine the constitutional institutions of the state.
Arab stressed the need to strengthen the role of the Iraqi judiciary and preserve its independence as the true guarantee of justice and the preservation of the rule of law in the country.
The Republican Party justifies this proposal by claiming that these Iraqi officials have deliberately facilitated Iran's influence in Iraq's political and security affairs.
The Republican proposal includes designating the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zidan, and a number of other senior Iraqi officials as entities subject to sanctions for “colluding with Iran and facilitating its influence in Iraq.”
They also allege that Zeidan and other officials have exploited their positions to undermine the independence of the Iraqi judiciary and tie it to Iranian interests.
This proposal comes at a time when tensions are escalating between the United States and Iran in the Iraqi arena.
However, this proposal faces opposition from some Democrats in Congress, who see it as a further escalation in the already tense relations between Washington and some Iraqi factions.
They also warn that this move could harm US efforts to promote stability in Iraq.
The Republican Party's proposal comes at a sensitive time ahead of the upcoming elections.
In the latest American opinion polls, the results showed a significant advantage for the Republicans in the upcoming elections, including the presidential, congressional and Senate elections.
This expected victory for the Republican Party comes for the second time since Donald Trump arrived at the White House in 2016.
According to political analyses, this overwhelming victory for the Republicans will enable Trump to implement his policies more effectively, especially in the economic fields and domestic issues that concern the American voter.
One of the most prominent files that Trump will focus on if he wins is the Iraq file, which Republicans consider the jewel of the Middle East and that it was “handed over” to Iran during Biden’s era, in addition to confronting Iranian influence in the region.
