    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Directorate of Combating Organized Crime announced, today, Monday (July 1, 2024), the arrest of groups that sell and buy light and medium weapons through social media sites, noting that all social media sites are under strict surveillance.
The spokesman for the Directorate of Combating Organized Crime, Brigadier General Hussein Al-Tamimi, said in a clarification received by "Baghdad Today", that "based on the directives and orders issued by the Minister of Interior, and under the direct supervision of the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Intelligence and Federal Investigations, in high coordination with the Directorate of Technologies affiliated with the agency, to track the pages that aim to sell and trade weapons on social media sites, this campaign resulted in the arrest of a number of these violators who were in possession of light and medium weapons, in addition to a number of hand grenades (pomegranates) in Baghdad and the governorates."
He explained that "they were brought before the judiciary to take legal action against them by the judiciary, according to Article 24 of the Weapons Law, and Article 27 as well," noting that "there is strict monitoring and surveillance of all social media sites, especially people who seek to sell these weapons."
He stressed that "selling and trading weapons via social media sites is prohibited by law except through official approvals issued by the Council of Ministers," noting that "our work is ongoing and God willing, the main goal will be achieved and all these people and weak souls will be prevented from promoting and selling weapons to citizens for fear of using them incorrectly and outside the law."
