Today, Wednesday (July 17, 2024), economic expert Haitham Al-Khazaali revealed the reason for the lack of increase in food prices in the month of Muharram despite the increase in demand for them in the local market, indicating that the government succeeded in controlling inflation and prevented the prices of these materials from increasing (11) times.
Al-Khazaali said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "There is a state of inflation in prices all over the world, not just in the region and Iraq, and this inflation is not linked to the month of Ramadan or the month of Muharram or specific months, as there is a large inflation in prices that reaches more than (11) times," indicating that "Iraq was able to control this inflation and the rise in food prices by developing agricultural production and raising seasonal crops of wheat and others, and paying farmers' dues."
He added, "The interest of Al-Sudani's government since its formation was to provide food supplies during the Ukrainian-Russian war, and to provide food supplies, reduce their prices in the markets, and prevent any increase in their impact on global inflation."
Al-Khazaali stressed that “the Iraqi citizen did not feel the global inflation by raising prices significantly as is the case in the rest of the world, and despite the rise in the dollar exchange rate in the local market, there was a successful government policy to control food prices, and for this reason we did not see any price increases in food products during the month of Ramadan or the month of Muharram, despite the very large increase in demand for them.
