    Baghdad Today - Sulaymaniyah
Former Kurdish MP Ghaleb Muhammad confirmed today, Wednesday (August 28, 2024), that the fate of July salaries is not yet known.
Mohammed said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The fate of the salaries is still unknown, as the federal government has only sent the salaries for the month of August, and the regional government says on its websites and party websites that Baghdad is withholding the salaries for the month of July and has not sent them to Erbil."
He added, "The Minister of Finance and the Ministry are required to issue a clarifying statement, because what is happening now is an information chaos, and no one knows what is happening, and no one knows the fate of the July salaries, and until now the regional government refuses to pay the salaries, despite the passage of 58 days since the last salary received by the employee."
Yesterday, Tuesday, an informed source revealed that the Ministry of Finance is financing employees’ salaries for the months of July and August.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "Baghdad has been financing Erbil with an amount of 55 billion dinars since February, and the total of this money is equal to the salaries of July as differences, and therefore the Ministry of Finance sent the salaries of August and the remaining part of the salaries of July only."
He added, "The Iraqi government calculated the difference amount, which is equal to the July salaries, so the regional government must pay the July salaries to its employees, since the federal government only sent the August salaries."
The source pointed out that "the regional government refuses to distribute salaries so far, and more than 58 days have passed and the employee has not received his salary yet."
Employees and retirees in the Kurdistan Region are suffering from severe economic problems as a result of the delay in disbursing their salaries for about 10 years. On this basis, the Federal Supreme Court made a decision to localize the salaries of the region’s employees and retirees with Baghdad. However, the decision was met with the Erbil government’s refusal to provide all the necessary information and the actual numbers of its employees to the federal banks in Baghdad, which prompted the latter to not send the salaries of the region’s employees.
Duplicate names and “alien” remain the biggest problem that hinders the disbursement of salaries for security forces in the region and even the civilian ones.
