    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Political researcher Ghaleb Al-Dumai clarified, today, Tuesday (August 27, 2024), the truth about the existence of an undeclared conflict between the House of Representatives and the Federal Supreme Court .
Al-Dumaimi told Baghdad Today: “I do not believe that the House of Representatives is rebelling against the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court, and calls to reopen the door to nominations for the presidency of the House of Representatives are exclusively within the authority of the House itself, as it is the first legislator, and this relates to organizing the work of Parliament.”
He added, "We do not believe that the Federal Supreme Court has anything to do with this, since opening the door to nominations is related to the internal regulations of the parliament, and this amendment is made after the agreement of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives and voting on it, and what has been proven throughout the past periods is that the Iraqi parliament does not oppose the decisions of the Federal Court . "
The political researcher added, "The House of Representatives is at the same time committed to implementing any decision issued by the Federal Court, and there is no rebellion against any of those decisions, especially since the Federal Court's decisions are binding and final for all authorities."
In November 2023, the Federal Supreme Court decided to terminate the membership of Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, against the backdrop of a case filed against him by MP Laith al-Dulaimi, in which he accused him of forging his resignation from Parliament, and the ruling ended with the termination of the membership of both.
The crisis of electing a new speaker of parliament to replace the dismissed Mohammed al-Halbousi is dominating the political scene, but there is another obstacle that continues to trouble the political blocs. Despite the passage of five parliamentary sessions, the representatives have still not reached a convincing internal system for the blocs under the dome of this legislative authority.
On May 18, the House of Representatives failed to elect a new speaker, after failing to hold a third round to tip the balance in favor of one of the candidates, MP Salem Al-Issawi of the Sovereignty Party, and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, who is supported by Progress.
