Legal expert to Al Sabah: Nour Zuhair and Haitham Al-Jabouri can be tried in absentia

In new developments in the case of what has become known as the "theft of the century", the Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued an order yesterday, Tuesday, to arrest the two accused of the theft of the century, Nour Zuhair and Haitham Al-Jubouri.
Legal expert Dr. Miri Kazim Al-Khaikani confirmed that this procedure comes in accordance with the principles of criminal trials, which have drawn a clear and specific path that if the accused does not attend any of the trial sessions, or the court is not convinced of the legitimate excuse presented by the accused's attorney for his absence, then it is authorized to issue an arrest warrant against him and bring him by force.
Al-Khaikani told Al-Sabah: "The court can proceed with the trial in absentia against the two accused."
