The leader of the Al-Hasm Alliance, Laith Al-Dulaimi, confirmed today, Tuesday, that there are parties outside the Sunni component that want to obstruct the selection of a speaker for parliament, explaining that those parties want the presidency of parliament to remain managed by proxy.

Al-Dulaimi said in an interview with the Twenty program broadcast by Al-Sumaria satellite channel, that “the monopoly of power has created frustration among the Sunnis about getting rid of a person who the judiciary has proven to be a fraud and who was expelled from parliament,” indicating that “the pivotal issues for the Sunnis, including the general amnesty law, were not adopted in their correct form, and our rejection of his positions was not merely out of hostility, but to defend the rights of the component.”

He added: "There is one party and one person who is obstructing the selection of a speaker of parliament and the timings that took place prove that because Halbousi and Atta have a complex that no speaker will come after the president."

Al-Dulaimi pointed out that "there is a desire from outside the Sunni component to obstruct the selection of a speaker of parliament and to keep the candidate of the Coordination Framework as acting speaker of parliament," indicating that "the members of parliament rejected the compromises and agreements in order to decide the speaker of parliament."

He pointed out that "the selection of MP Ziad al-Janabi as speaker of parliament is a good thing because he is a good national figure who can manage parliament," explaining that "the position of sovereignty with the nomination of Mahmoud al-Mashhadani is a supportive position."

He indicated that "the speaker of parliament will not remain vacant because the general and international atmosphere wants stability in the political situation in Iraq," explaining that "the political process in Iraq is managed by consensus and imposing the will sometimes to pass laws and decisions."

Al-Dulaimi stressed that "political parties are no longer emerging and have an independent opinion and are not controlled by external parties to manage political affairs within the country," explaining that "evidence of this is the laws that parliament has begun to impose and approve despite internal and external rejection of some of them."

He stressed that "the Iraqi reality is bitter and change must take place, and the beginning of that is choosing the head of the legislative institution correctly," noting that "there is political pressure from other parties on the Sunni component in the file of choosing the speaker of parliament."

Al-Dulaimi explained that "the general amnesty law from the previous session was agreed upon by everyone to pass, but some representatives[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]They refused to pass it under the pretext of the appropriate time and other matters,” noting that “there is a percentage of 80% innocent people who must be included in the general amnesty law by retriing them and investigating them by honest and independent bodies to achieve social justice,” stressing that “not everyone in prisons is innocent, so the trials must be retried to distinguish the innocent from the others.”

He continued: “The general amnesty law is political par excellence, and therefore we do not want the law to be passed unless a Sunni speaker comes to parliament so that we can hold him accountable, because passing it now will be under great pressure on Mandalawi to pass it according to political agendas,” explaining that “the old personal status law contained all the components to be referred to in the event of a disagreement, because presenting it at the present time is useless because it must be studied extensively to come up with a law that satisfies all parties.”
