    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The leader of the Coordination Framework, Issam Al-Kriti, revealed today, Tuesday (August 27, 2024), rapid developments during the past 48 hours regarding the knot of the presidency of the House of Representatives .
Al-Kriti told Baghdad Today, "Important and rapid developments have occurred in the past 48 hours to end the knot of the presidency of the House of Representatives, which resulted in deep understandings and dialogues, which can be summarized as the resolution of this file is just around the corner."
He added, "Holding the decisive session may not require weeks, but rather a short period, in light of the initial understandings sponsored by political forces that believe that any delay does not serve any political party, and it is time to end it."
He pointed out that "nominating a consensus candidate is currently the closest to proceeding with resolving the issue of the presidency of the House of Representatives and voting on him," indicating that "other results will appear in the coming days through the continuation of meetings and dialogues between several forces, including the Sunnis in Baghdad."
Despite the signs of agreement between the political blocs to settle the position of Parliament Speaker, which has been vacant for nine months, the differences within the Sunni component continue to plague the course of events despite all the mediations and attempts to resolve them .
In this regard, the leader of the Anbar Alliance, Mohammed Daham, holds the Progress Party, headed by the dismissed Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, responsible for the delay in this file .
Daham told Baghdad Today on Thursday (August 22, 2024), "The crisis of the parliament presidency came about because of the dismissal of Halbousi, and the Progress Party is still responsible for the crisis, as it claims that it has the right to choose the alternative ."
He added, "After failing to choose a new candidate for the presidency of parliament, the Progress Party is obstructing the election of an alternative. They do not want an alternative, whoever it may be. They are the cause of the crisis and the loss of the component's entitlement."
The competition for the position is limited to the Progress Party, led by Mohammed al-Halbousi, and the Sovereignty Party, led by Khamis al-Khanjar, as there seems to be a near consensus on Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, who previously held the position and is supported by former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, in addition to al-Halbousi being forced to accept him as his candidate, after his last candidate, Shaalan al-Karim, left.
