Baghdad/Al-Masala Event: Iraqi security sources reported on Wednesday that the “Ain al-Assad” military base, which belongs to the international coalition against jihadists, located in western Iraq, was attacked by two drones on Tuesday night, without causing any damage or casualties.
The attack, which targeted the base in Anbar province in western Iraq, came amid regional tensions fueled by the war in Gaza, and the hardening of the tone of the factions that adopt this type of attack, which have largely suspended their attacks in recent months, against the United States and its ally Israel.
But it threatened to retaliate if Israeli forces attacked the Lebanese Hezbollah.
A source in the Anbar province police, where Ain al-Assad is located, told Agence France-Presse, “A drone attack targeted the Ain al-Assad base,” located in the desert of Anbar province.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, added, "The attack took place on Tuesday evening, and one of the drones was shot down outside the base by the (air) defense system, and the second exploded inside the base without causing any injuries or damage."
A senior security official in Baghdad confirmed that two drones attacked the base, noting that one of them “fell” outside the Ain al-Asad base and the second inside the base “without causing any damage.”
