The current government is looking forward to sorting out the problems of young people in general on the discussion table of the Supreme Council for Youth, in a new effort by those in charge to solve intractable problems facing the broader segment of society in the labor market and education fields during the past two decades, as specialists believe that the project should focus on creating a new category of “researchers” at the age of youth to inject new blood and provide a stimulating climate.
Qasim Al-Dhalmi, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Youth Affairs and a member of the Supreme Council for Youth Committee, told Al-Sabah: “Since its inception and with the close follow-up of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the Council has sought to devote efforts to developing and enhancing the capabilities of youth in various forums.” He pointed out that “one of the most prominent decisions approved during the last session was the launch of the National Youth Research Competition, which aims to encourage them to conduct scientific research and innovation within specific fields that can be used later.”
Al-Dhalimi explained that “the competition targets youth from the age of 18, within an important age group that allows them to activate their cognitive role and engage in competition for innovation and creativity to obtain valuable prizes to encourage them.”
In turn, Dean of the College of Basic Education, Dr. Qusay Abdul Abbas Hassan, explained to {Al-Sabah} that “these projects and programs that the Supreme Council for Youth seeks to implement are a step towards raising the level of higher education and scientific research, and contributing to raising, empowering and motivating young people to participate in advancing the academic level by focusing on activating the role of young researchers, especially the ages that have been identified starting from 18 years, which is a promising category that needs concerted efforts to engage them in the knowledge sector and increase their capacity for creativity and innovation.”
For his part, the head of the Association of Authors of the Iraqi Society for Educational and Psychological Studies, Dr. Samaa Turki, appreciated “the efforts made by the Supreme Council for Youth to provide opportunities for youth by establishing programs and projects that contribute to providing them with knowledge.”
Turki explained, in an interview with Al-Sabah, that “the current government efforts focus on stimulating the educational institution’s enthusiasm for innovation, and opening the way for young people to raise scientific output in Arab and international circles.”
He added, "The council will be the focus of the world's attention to draw the attention of the educational community to the existence of youthful energies that can contribute to building a generation of effective authors, which is the same orientation of the Association of Authors of the Iraqi Society for Educational and Psychological Studies."
