    The Ministry of Transport has begun implementing projects to rehabilitate the railway sector and train stations in the western and northern regions that were subjected to acts of sabotage by terrorism, according to a specific timetable.
    The director of the ministry’s media office, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Eqtisad News”, that the ministry is working on rebuilding and rehabilitating the railway sector projects that were sabotaged according to a specific timetable, through the World Bank’s emergency loan cooperation agreement, and based on the study submitted by the Iraqi General Railways Company, to restore bridges, railway lines and infrastructure to the western and northern regions damaged by terrorist acts, in addition to the projects that the ministry will implement directly.
    He stated that the ministry has recently opened lines in the northern and western regions that were destroyed by terrorist operations, most notably the Qayyarah Refinery and Sharqat Silo railways in Nineveh Governorate, and the Baghdad-Fallujah, Baghdad-Samarra and Baghdad-Qaim-Akashat railways. Al-Safi added that the coming few months will witness the opening of the Baghdad-Ramadi railway as a second step, after the opening of the Baghdad-Fallujah railway line, in addition to the rehabilitation of railway stations in Anbar distributed among the cities of the governorate, most notably the Fallujah and Ramadi stations.
    He pointed out that the Mosul train station reconstruction project is receiving great attention from the ministry, as advanced rates of completion have been achieved in the project, which is expected to be completed during the coming year.
