Delays in implementing Ministry of Youth projects affect the development of sports infrastructure in Iraq

As part of the follow-up of stalled projects funded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Iraq, concerns are growing about the impact of these delays on the youth and sports sector in various governorates.
Projects that promised to develop sports and youth facilities and provide better opportunities for young talents are now facing challenges that hinder their timely implementation.
These projects include delays in the construction of new stadiums, the renovation of sports centers, and the implementation of youth support programs.
These delays are of concern to officials and the local community, especially in light of the urgent need to develop sports infrastructure and enhance youth activities in Iraq.
The head of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee, Mohsen Al-Saeedi, revealed that there are about 120 stalled projects in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while he confirmed that these files have been referred to the Federal Integrity Commission.
Al-Saeedi said, “The Youth and Sports Committee will begin procedures to refer many files related to the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ stalled projects to the Integrity Commission.”
He added, "There are projects that have been stalled since 2014, in addition to other files such as the delegations file, indicating that the Ministry of Youth and Sports' answer was not convincing, noting that "Al-Tajyat Stadium is one of the stalled projects."
For his part, MP Jassim Al-Alawi said, “The most prominent outcomes of the recent visit of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Al-Mubarqa, to Maysan Governorate focused on following up on the stalled ministerial projects in Maysan that are being implemented within the youth and sports projects.”
He added, "There are a number of stalled projects in Maysan, and the minister discussed with the local government correcting the work of sports institutions in the province, supporting youth, and finding solutions to stalled projects in Maysan."
Minister of Youth Ahmed Al-Mubarqa recently visited Maysan accompanied by representatives of the province, and met with the local government. The most prominent thing discussed was the stalled projects in the province included in the youth and sports sector projects.
In addition, Minister of Planning, Mohammed Ali Tamim, discussed with Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Al-Mubarqa, the reality of the Ministry of Youth and Sports projects, and ways to address the problems that hinder the completion of those projects, in terms of financial allocations, adding components, increasing costs, starting to implement new projects, and resuming work on stalled projects, after agreeing to address the causes of stalling. Among the projects that were discussed and solutions to their problems were Al-Tajiyat Stadium, Kirkuk Stadium, Al-Musayyab Stadium, Mosul Stadium, and the Astronomical Dome.
The Minister of Planning stressed the Ministry’s readiness to overcome all difficulties and address the problems that hinder the completion of youth and sports projects, given the great importance of these projects to the youth segment, who represent the largest segment of Iraqi society.”
He explained that “the Ministry of Planning is open to all ministries and entities not affiliated with the Ministry, and the governorates, and works with them in the spirit of solving any problem that could hinder the completion of any project,” stressing that “there are many accumulated problems that the Ministry has succeeded in addressing in coordination with the relevant authorities, especially those related to stalled projects.”
