Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani called on political forces and constitutional authorities to stand by the government in completing its service and reform program.
This came during a televised speech, where Al-Sudani stressed the importance of direct discourse to build trust with the people, noting that the government was established under difficult circumstances that are still stuck in memory, as a result of political intersections and the absence of an integrated vision in managing the state.
Government priorities
Al-Sudani stressed that his government has adopted a realistic approach to reading the necessary demands that link the relationship between the citizen and the government. He focused on the concept of a “service government,” which has set its priorities in combating corruption, reducing unemployment, and addressing poverty, pointing to the government’s support from the State Administration Coalition and the National Forces.
Al-Sudani added that the government provided significant support to those covered by the social protection network, covering 961,000 new families, and distributed more than 7.5 million food baskets monthly within the ration card items. The student grant also covered more than two million students, and more than 372,000 salaries were disbursed to full-time appointees.
Improve services
In the field of education, Al-Sudani explained that the government has launched a campaign to provide school buildings, where more than 500 new buildings have been built, in addition to renovating thousands of other buildings. The government has also succeeded in solving the problem of contractors, higher degrees, first graduates, and daily wages, which has provided about one million job positions.
In the labor sector, Al-Sudani pointed out that the government supported the private sector through the “Iraq Development Fund,” which provided thousands of job opportunities. Local energy production indicators also recorded an unprecedented increase of 27,000 megawatts.
Self-sufficiency and fuel export
Al-Sudani pointed to the development witnessed by the oil sector, especially in the exploitation of associated gas, as Iraq has reached the exploitation of 67% of this gas, and achieved self-sufficiency in gas oil fuel, and even began exporting it. Gasoline production also increased to 28 million liters per day, which led to a decline in imports to their lowest levels, and it is expected that imports will stop completely by the beginning of 2025.
Infrastructure and housing projects
Al-Sudani stressed that infrastructure projects have been launched strongly, including the “Iraq Development Road” project and the Grand Faw Port. The government has also begun to address the housing issue on a broad scale, with a focus on establishing new cities to meet the growing need. The government has also achieved self-sufficiency in wheat production, and opened the doors to national industry by establishing major industrial cities.
Traffic jams
In the field of infrastructure, Al-Sudani indicated that projects to address traffic congestion have reached advanced stages, and many of them have actually been opened. Work has also been resumed on 471 ministries’ projects and 354 governorate projects after they were halted, and 400 other projects have been completed.
Improving government procedures
Al-Sudani announced the end of the problem of multiple personal documents, as more than 40 million unified personal cards were issued. The electronic passport system was also launched, which contributed to reducing many of the reviews that were burdensome for citizens.
International Relations and Security
In the field of international relations, Al-Sudani pointed to the government's success in avoiding the repercussions of escalation in the region, especially the aggression on Gaza. He also stressed the resolution of the issue of the international coalition to fight ISIS and the termination of the work of the United Nations Mission (UNAMI) in Iraq.
Anti-corruption
Al-Sudani stressed that the government is committed to holding accountable any violation of the job position or breach of the law, stressing that the government seeks to meet the aspirations of the Iraqi people and achieve development and prosperity. He called on the national political forces to stand united behind the government to complete its service program, especially in light of the security and economic challenges facing the region.
Ministerial reshuffle
At the end of his speech, Al-Sudani pointed out the importance of settling the entitlement to the presidency of the House of Representatives, explaining that the government is waiting for this step to proceed to parliament to approve the ministerial amendment based on the evaluation of the ministers’ performance. He stressed that the government will remain committed to serving the Iraqi people and achieving their aspirations in building a strong and prosperous Iraq.
