On Monday, Issam Shaker, a leader in the Coordination Framework, described Washington’s attempts to obstruct the amendment of the Personal Status Law as a failure.
Shaker told Al-Maalouma Agency, "The American embassy is trying to impose pressure to prevent the passage of amendments to the Personal Status Law, noting that the intervention is an attempt to draw up an agenda that has become known to public opinion in an attempt to strike the social and ideological structure through laws that grant excessive freedom."
He added, "Washington, along with more than 20 Western embassies, previously obstructed a draft law criminalizing homosexuality in an attempt to spread this concept, which is rejected by all heavenly religions."
