Government Advisor: Baghdad Metro License Will Be Granted Soon

The Prime Minister's Advisor, Nasser Al-Asadi, revealed that the coming days will witness the granting of an investment license for the "Baghdad Metro" project.
Al-Asadi told Al-Sabah: “The government is in the process of reviewing the papers, completing the procedures, and granting the investment license for the Baghdad Metro project to the winning team, and that work will begin on the project after the license is granted in the coming days.”
Al-Asadi explained that "the scheduled completion period for the project will last for 48 months, and will cover an area of 85 percent of Baghdad," noting that "the length of the project is 148 km, distributed over 64 stations, including 8 stations for transferring between tracks, and 4 crossings that will be between Karkh and Rusafa."
He added, "The route will cover all places in Baghdad, including tourist areas and universities, in addition to Islamic and Christian religious shrines, shopping centers, government ministries, relevant departments, hospitals, and all activities within the capital, Baghdad. It also reaches Baghdad International Airport, linked to four of the eight routes, so that the process of moving a traveler from any area in Baghdad to the airport is easy and convenient."
He pointed out that the train will have international specifications and will not be a driver, so that its safety rates will be very high. It will travel along the main streets in Baghdad, and the stations will be in the middle of the road, with a bridge covering both sides of the road.
He revealed that “one train will consist of six carriages, each of which will accommodate 150 passengers, and there will be three classes in it: the first is the golden class, which will have a comfortable space for the passenger, a carriage designated for women, infants, newborns and young children, which will have a high level of privacy for women, and another for regular class passengers, in addition to seats designated for people with special needs.”
