The Badr parliamentary bloc rejected the proposal to move the media department outside the Iraqi parliament building.
“There is a desire to evacuate the media department and move it outside the parliament, and this is unacceptable,” said the bloc’s MP, Moeen Al-Kadhimi, during a press conference held at the parliament building. “There must be room for the media and its opinion, and from a practical standpoint, members of parliament cannot go outside the parliament to express their opinions and communicate with the media.”
Al-Kadhimi explained that “removing the media from the parliament building is incorrect, and will make the parliament cut off from its audience. We are in favor of the media department remaining in its position, and we will follow up on the issue with the parliament presidency to find out the justifications and motives for this issue.”
He added, “The issue is not new, as this topic has been raised for several years, but the location of the media department is considered a model location as it is close to the gathering of the council members and the meeting hall, and it is possible to hold press conferences as quickly as possible, and for the members of the House of Representatives to reach the various media outlets to express their opinions and inform the public of the truth.”
Al-Kadhimi stressed that “it is not correct to move the media department outside the building, and we will stand with the rest of the members of the House of Representatives to keep the media department inside the House of Representatives to express the voice of the Iraqis and the voice of Parliament.”
