    Political analyst Muhammad Ali Al-Hakim confirmed, today, Sunday (November 3, 2024), that the new Speaker of Parliament, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, will work to strengthen work between the authorities.
    Al-Hakim told Baghdad Today, "The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, has good relations with the Iraqi authorities and the political forces in the country, and this will work to strengthen and enhance the work between those authorities, especially since there has been a lukewarmness in this relationship throughout the past period due to the vacancy of the position of the Speaker of Parliament."
    He added, "It is expected that Al-Mashhadani's term will witness the enactment of many laws, especially controversial ones, especially since the new parliament speaker has experience in the field of council management, and this will help him succeed in his work during the coming period."
    Last Thursday, the House of Representatives voted to elect Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani from the “Al-Sadara” bloc as Speaker of Parliament .
    The position of Speaker of the House of Representatives is the share of the Sunni component, according to the agreements on the basis of which the Iraqi government was formed between the three basic components: Shiite, Sunni, and Kurdish .
    Mahmoud Daoud Musa Al-Mashhadani is a Sunni politician, born in 1948 in Baghdad. He obtained a degree in medicine from the University of Baghdad in 1972 and is descended from the well-known Sunni Al-Mashhadah tribe in Iraq .
    The parliament is awaiting an important legislative phase that will establish a new political path in Iraq under the leadership of veteran Speaker of the House of Representatives Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani. It is also expected to legislate laws that are still pending in the halls of parliament and need to be resolved, in light of what the presidencies of the republic and the prime minister have pledged to make the steps of cooperation with the new presidency of parliament successful.
    The next parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in October 2025 to elect its 329 members.
