US President Donald Trump
After Republican candidate Donald Trump declared victory in the US presidential election and defeated his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, it represented a stunning political comeback after four years of leaving the White House.
Trump told his supporters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, where he was accompanied by vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, Republican leaders and members of his family: “America has given us a strong and unprecedented mandate.”

He spent minutes praising Elon Musk, the world's richest man, who gave about $120 million to Trump's campaign.
Trump said he would appoint Musk to head a government efficiency commission.
No other news sources have yet declared Trump a winner, but he appears on the verge of victory after clinching important swing states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia and leading in four others, according to Edison Research forecasts.
Harris did not speak to supporters gathered at Harrods College, where she studied, and her campaign manager, Cedric Richmond, gave a brief address to the crowd gathered after midnight, saying Harris would speak on Wednesday.
“We still have votes to count,” he added.
The former president performed strongly across large swaths of the country, improving on his 2020 performance everywhere from rural areas to urban centers.
Republicans won a majority of seats in the US Senate after flipping Democratic-held seats in West Virginia and Ohio.
Neither party has made clear progress in the battle for control of the House of Representatives, where Republicans currently hold a slim majority.
Trump entered Election Day with a 50-50 chance of retaking the White House, a marked turnaround from Jan. 6, 2021, when many experts predicted his political career was over.
On that day, a mob of his supporters stormed Congress in a violent attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Trump gained more support from voters of Spanish-speaking origin, who traditionally backed the Democratic Party, as well as from low-income households who have felt the impact of rising prices since the last presidential election in 2020, according to Edison polls.
Trump won 45 percent of Spanish-speaking voters nationwide, trailing Harris with 53 percent but up 13 percentage points from 2020.
About 31 percent of voters said the economy was the most important issue to them, and they voted for Trump 79 percent to 20 percent for Harris, according to exit polls.
About 45 percent of voters nationwide said their household’s financial situation was worse today than it was four years ago, and they voted for Trump 80 percent to 17 percent.
