Iraq's National Security and Defence Committee called for Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi to investigate the reasons behind the latest security breaches that led to the killing and wounding of more than 1,000 people, the Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.

The committee threatened to question the prime minister if he did not launch a comprehensive investigation.
In a press conference, committee head Hakem Al-Zameli said: “A number of security breaches and detonations took place recently in several neighbourhoods across Baghdad… These acts caused the killing and wounding of more than 1,000 Iraqis. This proves weak intelligence and preventive security.”
“I am calling for the General Commander of the Armed Forces Haidar Al-Abadi to open and investigation into this issue to know the reasons for these security breaches and propose plans to treat them.”
Al-Zameli noted that the committee is to host a number of the security leaders, including the operations director and the interior and defence ministers, as well as the general director of the armed forces.
