“The Big 'W'” - It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

A Ducks win at the Shark Tank, how about that. It was huge. Taking the positive approach; Anaheim went into hostile territory, without their best goalie and shut down the division leaders. If these two teams meet again in the playoffs, Sunday's victory will be a major rallying point.

“We're the old men, Ace” - Starship Troopers

Ryan Getzlaf is playing his best hockey of the year right now. He has put up points in 10 of his last 13 games. At a point in the regular season when players hit “the wall”, the Ducks captain is leading by example and showing the younger guys in the locker room that they have more to give.

“He may be an asshole... But he's our asshole!” - Beyond the Sea

Ryan Kesler doesn't get the column space in this blog he is due. Its odd for me to say that considering he has long been one of my favorites (even in Vancouver). His “skirmish” with Joel Ward was, if nothing else, inspirational for his teammates. Kesler stuck up for himself against a beefier opponent. He showed the rest of the club, he won't take any crap. Opposing fans hate RK17, but they would all love to him on their side.

I am a hockey player!! You want me to play on one leg?! Huh?! I'll play on one leg! - Miracle

John Gibson, of LBI fame, was on the ice for part of practice yesterday. His foray back on the ice sounded more like another step of rehab rather than getting ready for game action. The Ducks are locked into a playoff slot, they are playing for seeding and possible first round home ice advantage. There is no need to rush Gibson back, but going by his previous performances he'll need a good two game to get in his zone.

You... you've got me? Who's got you? - Superman

Jonathan Bernier continued his stellar play in beating San Jose. It was his sixth straight non-loss. He has led the Ducks to 11 of 12 points in those games. Having him start back-to-back games this late in the year was mildly controversial. Gibson is not ready to return and it seems as if coach Randy Carlyle doesn't have much faith in third string goalie Jhonas Enroth. Unfortunately, Bernier and the Ducks are working without a safety net.

“Black 10 standing by” - Star Wars

OK, I took a few liberties with this one, there is no Black Squadron in Star Wars. It still applies to Corey Perry. Every time it looks like Perry is about break out of his scoring malaise this season, he goes back into stand by mode. The “hurry up and wait” game continues.

    "It's a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma...." - J.F.K.

The Ducks have been somewhat schizophrenic in 2017-18. The big question is: Are they the team that couldn't beat last place Vancouver at home, gave up a very late goal in St. Louis to drop a point, and didn't put away a beatable Buffalo team, who was on the final stop of a West Coast trip; or are they the team that is 6-1 against playoff contenders in March, including three against division leaders (who they outscored by a combined 8-3)?
