The Tampa Bay Lightning overcame a three-goal deficit to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 in overtime for the team's third consecutive victory.

The Bolts have won six in a row at home against Chicago and have earned at least a point in their last 11 meetings with the Blackhawks going 9-0-2 over that span.

    What a Game!

To put it simply, last night's showdown between the Lightning and Blackhawks had everything you look for in a hockey game, unless you are looking for low-scoring goalie showdown.

Midway through the second period, it appeared as though Chicago was going to get out of Tampa Bay with a blowout victory. After Tampa was able to tie the game at one in the opening period, the Blackhawks poured on three-straight goals to make it 4-1. Andrei Vasilevskiy was even pulled at 13:41 of the first period but found himself back between the pipes to start the second. To everyone watching, it seemed like it was going to be another night where the Bolts squander a golden opportunity to move up in the standings.

Then, 11:45 into the second period, Lightning struck! Jonathan Drouin scored the first of his two goals on the night to cut Chicago's lead to two. Little did anybody know, but Drouin's goal would open up the floodgates and turn this game completely around. Tampa Bay scored three goals in a span of 4:39 to eliminate the Blackhawks lead and eventually send the game into overtime.

Overtime was nothing short of spectacular with each team receiving plenty of opportunities to end it. The extra period would continue for 4:25 until rookie, Yanni Gourde, scored his second NHL goal on a breakaway to give the Bolts a dramatic victory.

No team wants to be facing a three-goal deficit. However, the Lightning did not let destroy them. Instead, they faced adversity head-on, just like so many other times this season, and got the job done.

    One Step Closer

With last night's victory and an Islander loss, the Lightning were able to surpass New York in the standings are now only one point behind the Bruins for the final wild-card spot.

Boston plays the Nashville Predators tonight and then these three teams do not see action until they all play on Thursday night. Tampa Bay will need to keep things rolling when the Red Wings come into town for the second game of four-straight at home.
