Do you happen to know when Nick Leddy started to turn his season around? It was when Adam Pelech was recalled from Bridgeport to replace the injured Travis Hamonic.

Pelech is the complete opposite of Leddy. That's not a knock on the 22-year-old. Pelech doesn't take too many risks and and is more of a defenseman's defenseman. He's not called on to provide offense, although three goals and seven assists in 44 games, if you double that for a full season would give you Thomas Hickey numbers.

The Toronto native did experience some growing pains throughout the season. That is expected when dealing with young defensemen. He had a stretch of some bad games that saw him being scratched for Scott Mayfield.

The Islanders have a few young defensemen waiting in the wings. It would be criminal if Ryan Pulock is not in the top-six to start the season. Devon Toews was an AHL All-Star and is ready to take the next step and Parker Wotherspoon will begin his professional career in Bridgeport next season. The Islanders are very high on him.

Pelech, like Calvin deHaan is a restricted free agent. His deal should not be an issue.
The jury is still out on what Pelech can become, but it will likely be a middle to bottom pairing defensemen. The question is whether there will be a regular spot available for him.
