The San Jose Sharks protected list has been finalized and there are no real surprises to speak of. The Sharks chose to protect seven forwards, three defensemen, and Martin Jones ahead of Wednesday's expansion draft.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights join the NHL and the Pacific Division for the upcoming season.

I have the list in its entirety below....

    Forwards:
    Ryan Carpenter
    Logan Couture
    Jannik Hansen
    Tomas Hertl
    Melker Karlsson
    Joe Pavelski
    Chris Tierney

    Defensemen:
    Justin Braun
    Brent Burns
    Marc-Edouard Vlasic

    Goalie:
    Martin Jones

San Jose had the luxury of not having any contracts containing No Movement Clauses on the books. Thankfully the Sharks were able to put together a list that best suits the franchise today and into the future. Unlike interstate rival, Anaheim, that will lose young defenseman Sami Vatanen for nothing. *tsk, tsk*

Additionally, first and second-year players are exempt from the expansion draft. That list includes Joonas Donskoi, Timo Meier, Marcus Sorensen, and Kevin Labanc.

After all was said and done, the Sharks roster will remain large and in charge.

    ...

The Sharks made a move yesterday as a precursor to the release of their protected list.

San Jose traded former first-round pick, Mirco Mueller along with a 5th round pick to the New Jersey Devils for a 2nd round and 4th round pick in next week’s NHL draft.

Mueller was the Sharks' top defensive prospect after they drafted him with the 18th pick in 2013. But the 19-year-old rookie struggled in 39 NHL games. He recored just six (2g 4a) points while posting a minus-8 rating over that span.

The deal is great for both sides.

The Devils had a need on the back end (still do) and Wilson was able to parlay that need into a couple very valuable assets.

The first round of the draft begins on June 23 and San Jose will have eight picks to work with.

Before the Mueller deal, the Sharks had one pick in the first four rounds.

    - They sent their second-round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs last year for defenseman Roman Polak and center Nick Spaling.

    - They lost their third-round pick as compensation for hiring head coach Pete DeBoer from the Devils.

    - They sent their fourth-round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for Jannik Hansen

    Additional news and notes;

Center Ryan Carpenter, as well as defensemen Tim Heed and Joakim Ryan, signed two-year, two-way contracts to return to the San Jose, joining goalie Troy Grosenick who was re-signed two weeks ago.

All three were praised by both the Sharks and Barracuda's hierarchy.

The Barracuda are fresh off a trip to the Western Conference Finals and will return to the ice next Fall with a solid core intact.
