Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi Planning Ministry announced the Iraqi population was increased to reach 37.883.543 people in 2016.

In an official statement, the percentage of the males reached to 51%, while the females percentages were declined to 49%, but the population growth was declined to 2.5% in comparison to previous figures of 2.9%.

The ministry is planning to conduct a future vision for the people in Iraq in the lights of its annual increase.

The first Iraqi census was made in 1934, where the number of population reached to 3.38 million and the latest was made in 1997 where the figures were increased to 22.17 million people.

Unofficial estimates in 2009 pointed that the population reached to 30.6 million people.

No official census was made after the downfall of the previous regime in 2003 due to differences between the central government in Baghdad and the Kurdish region in Arbil on some points related the census sheets and the deteriorating security situation in the country ever since.
