Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi agriculture ministry reported buying 3.1 million tons of local production for this year's season, which is expected to end by mid of the next month, August, 2017.

Iraq is expected to get its production goals of 3.65 million tons of wheat this year.

Iraq needs 4.5-5 million tons of wheat annually, which the difference is imported by the Iraqi trade ministry.

The ministry has difficulty in its wheat imports after changing payment procedures that led to non-participation in its international tenders.

On 3 August, 2017, it is expected that the acting trade minister Salman al-Jumaili will be questioned by the Iraqi parliament for corruption in the ministry, including the importation of rotten rice.
