BAGHDAD - Iraqi President Mohammad Fuad Masum denied on Monday that his country is a party to Iran against Saudi Arabia or vice versa, stressing that Iraq will not be a conduit for Iran against any Arab country.

This came at a press conference held by Masoum today in Bayan Palace in Hawalli province south of Kuwait City during his one-day visit to the country.

"Iraq is not a party with Saudi Arabia against Iran or with Iran against Saudi Arabia and not with one country against another in general," Masoum said.

He added that "Iraq will not be a corridor for Iran against any Arab country or Arab country against Iran."

The Iraqi president described Iraqi-Saudi relations as "good."

"It is better to continue the dialogue three or four years of military confrontation for two or three days," said Masoum.

He stressed that Iraq with the Gulf unity, especially that his country has passed many experiences and "is not in Iraq's interest in the existence of a conflict between the Gulf states," in reference to the apparent Gulf crisis, which lasted 6 months.

"There are outstanding issues such as the issue of compensation and Khawr Abd Allah, and this is the task of the concerned institutions and institutions and I have found a Kuwaiti response to solve all these issues," Masoum said.

The United Nations estimated damage to the invasion of Kuwait by the former Iraqi regime in August 1990, at about $ 23 billion.

Iraq still has to pay $ 4.6 billion to finalize the compensation file, but the payment has been postponed since 2014.

Khawr Abd Allah is the name of a border agreement signed by Iraq and Kuwait in 2012, ratified by Baghdad in November 2013, and continues to receive opposition from Iraqi political parties.

In another context, the Iraqi president expected to hold a conference in Kuwait during the second or third month of next year, on the reconstruction of Iraqi areas liberated from the organization "Da'ash" terrorist.

He noted Kuwait's interest in making this conference a success and providing international assistance in the reconstruction of donor countries.

He denied the existence of any disputes on the land border between his country and Kuwait, stressing "the continuation of work between the two countries to complete the maritime border."

He expressed great satisfaction with the results of his visit to Kuwait and his talks with the Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

"The man of reconciliation, who enjoys a high reputation in the region and in the world, has long experience in completing reconciliation," he said.

He stressed that "the parties should sit on the table to discuss and then end the problems," in reference to what Kuwait is mediating to resolve the Gulf crisis.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar.

The four countries imposed punitive measures on the grounds of their support for terrorism, which Doha denies, accusing the Quartet of trying to impose guardianship on its national decision.

He left Kuwait today, and was headed by the emir of Kuwait, Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and senior officials.
