The Parliamentary Women of the Journal News: The Personal Status Law was canceled and will not be presented again
    Baghdad Journal
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Parliamentary Women's Committee in the Iraqi parliament on Saturday canceled the new personal status law, saying it had been withdrawn from parliament's agenda.
"The amendment to the new personal status law has been canceled and will not be put to a vote and discussion again," said MP Nasr al-Jubouri, in a statement to the Journal News.
Jubouri said that "the law will not be brought back to the forefront during the current parliamentary session, and I do not expect it will take a way in the legislation because of domestic and international rejection of the United Nations law and we reject him in toto."
The British Embassy in Iraq on Friday announced on its official website the withdrawal of draft amendments to the personal status law from the agenda of the Iraqi parliament, saying: "The amendments would be a major setback for the rights of women and girls"
"The United Kingdom has stood shoulder to shoulder with civil society and parliamentarians to oppose these amendments, and we welcome their withdrawal from the agenda," the embassy said.

Shivak News / Member of the House of Representatives Rizan Sheikh Delir warned on Saturday of the constant dangers facing the reality of Iraqi women because of the decline in granting them their natural rights.

"Iraqi women are always fighting to prevent them from speaking their words and occupying their real space, even though the new Iraq has emerged from the womb of the crisis and the ugly dictatorship has been turned over to the good of hope," she said in a statement.

She added that "what happened is the trauma towards the Iraqi woman and her reality, despite the sacrifices and great efforts she has made in building society to reward distance from leadership positions and take away her natural right and obstruct her participation equally with men in the management of public life to become its existence formally and without substance. The reduction of the mind of women and make them a tool in the hands of laws do not correspond to the calls of the Iraqi government fairly. "

"The woman in Iraq has lost her mind and her presence has become meaningless in light of the contradictory interpretations of Islamic parties that want to turn back to women under the pretext of applying Islamic law, although the Koran describes women with the greatest descriptions," she said.

"The role of the government requires a greater understanding of the importance of giving women the right to complete the equation of success and consider it a true half of the society and not slogans in electoral campaigns. The international community must also realize the suffering of women, Indeed".

"The representation of women in ministerial and leadership posts is greater than what we see now, and is equivalent to the permanent sacrifice on the mihrab of freedom, education and building communities to complete the equation of success." The international community and its institutions working in Iraq understand this role and support the government to do its duty towards women, .
