German factories began construction of four new "Saar 6" warships to become the largest Israeli navy ships.
According to the IDF press center, Israel expects to obtain these vessels within three years to be used to protect the Israeli economic zone and its natural gas fields.
"On 7 February, the construction of the Saar 6 ships took place, and in the next three years the Israeli navy will gradually use them," said a statement issued by the Israeli army.
Israeli navy commander Eli Sharvit described the ships, which had been built in Germany, as "one of the main components of the country's naval defense shield."
The ships, along with three US-made Saar 5 ships, are expected to become the largest ships in the Israeli fleet.
