The Commission on Integrity called on Wednesday not to allow those covered by the amnesty law and corruption cases to run for elections, indicating that this requires legislative intervention.

"We call upon the legislative and executive authorities not to allow the public amnesty law No. 27 of 2016 to run for parliamentary and local elections, in addition to not allowing those with whom we have investigated important cases related to financial and administrative corruption, Public funds by running for local and parliamentary elections, even if no final judicial rulings have been issued against them. "

"It requires legislative intervention to prevent this," it added. "This invitation comes as a step of proactive steps, and it is a purely regulatory action."

The Commission added that it "submitted several proposals to the House of Representatives to amend article (10) of the general amnesty law No. (27) of 2016 (amended) in order to exclude crimes of bribery, embezzlement, theft of state funds and other financial and administrative corruption offenses As well as another amendment to ensure that those who have been sentenced in absentia or an international red bulletin are not included in the provisions of the law, as well as a third proposal to add a text that includes the prohibition of the amnesty law for financial and administrative corruption offenses from running for parliamentary and local elections, They are any position. "

The Integrity Commission issued in August 2016 a statement confirming its refusal to cover corruption crimes under the provisions of the Amnesty Law No. (27) for the year 2016 (amended), because it is "a waste of the strenuous efforts exerted by the national regulators in the fight against corruption.
