Washington warns Iraq of the consequences of buying "S-400"
    BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
Washington, Iraq and other countries have warned of the consequences of buying deals for Russian weapons, according to the CAATSA Act.
In response to a question about the possibility of Baghdad acquiring the Russian S-400 air defense systems, US State Department spokesman Heather Noyert confirmed that the United States is talking to many countries, including Iraq, to explain the significance of the law and the possible consequences of holding such defense deals with Russia.
Noiret said she did not know whether the deal was signed between Iraq and Russia on the "S-400" systems or not.
Earlier, the head of the Russian Federation's Defense and Security Committee, Victor Bondarev, said Syria, Iraq, Sudan and Egypt were candidates for Russian S-400 systems. The Russian ambassador to Baghdad, Maxim Maximov, reported that the Iraqi side is in the process of issuing new applications for the purchase of Russian-made weapons and may include the S-400 systems as well.
