The head of the National Security Service, Abdul Karim Abdul Fadil "Abu Ali Al-Basri", confirmed today, Wednesday, the imminent announcement of crimes related to public money, loans, and land seizure, as well as a list of 70 wanted persons.
Al-Basri said in an interview with the official newspaper: “Within the scope of electronic extortion, the statistics of the Cybercrime Unit reveal the removal of hundreds of extortion networks and the arrest of dozens of those involved with criminal intent during the years 2023 and 2024,” indicating that “these constitute the most dangerous networks that have existed for several years according to official data,” adding that “on this basis, a search is being conducted for those suspected of participating as members of a criminal organization and pursuing those wanted by the judiciary inside and outside the country.” He pointed out that “extortion networks, money laundering crimes, and drug trafficking have been overthrown, in addition to dismantling the largest system of gambling halls in (the Karrada area) that uses international devices linked to the Internet in money laundering and drug trafficking, and hundreds of those involved in electronic and organized criminal cases have been arrested,” explaining that “some of them are still under investigation and there are others who have been issued separate sentences that reach life imprisonment.” Abu Ali Al-Basri warned of what he described as “cyberspace analog crimes that result from physical reality.” New types of crimes called (cybercrimes) such as piracy, fraud, sabotage, human rights violations, publishing pornographic images and sexual exploitation, as well as being used in drug trafficking and violating the privacy of others," he added, "On this basis, deterrent methods are being developed for virtual cases by making changes in the technical and human environment of the National Security Service, which makes it capable of confronting crimes of all types and methods." He stressed that "our priority is to train many members of the National Security Service on advanced technologies and modern devices that are the most influential in monitoring and pursuing the so-called (the Dark Web) and its use as a black market for selling stolen goods, money laundering, drug trafficking and spreading behavioral and societal deviation." Al-Basri called on citizens who use the Internet to "enter the first Iraqi platform in its experimental version called (Aman) specialized in cybersecurity services in practicing the protection of computers, networks, software applications, important systems and data from potential digital threats," indicating that "the platform is used to examine files and links before using them, and to ensure The head of the National Security Service noted that “courses have been opened to train many members of the service on advanced technologies and modern devices that can be used to access computers, phones and programs of blackmailers, organized crime gangs and terrorists,” explaining that “the service’s detachments were able to arrest hundreds of blackmailers in the governorates of Kirkuk, Nineveh, Basra, Baghdad, Wasit, Karbala, Muthanna, Babylon and Anbar,” and he indicated that “these blackmailers use money laundering, frequenting international gambling halls via the Internet, drug trafficking and human trafficking, and they also practice more serious crimes such as recruitment, financing and cyber terrorism.” Al-Basri said:"According to the data, long-wanted individuals have been arrested, and more than 120 terrorists have been arrested, most notably Abu Anas al-Iraqi, Abu Hajar, and Abu Hiba," he said, noting that "about 157 people suspected of belonging to a deviant religious movement calling itself the 'Sacrifice Group' were arrested, as well as others accused of joining the banned Baath Party in several governorates." He added, "As part of the campaigns against all types of crimes, the agency's detachments and intelligence services were able - during a rare operation - to dismantle the most dangerous fraud and theft system for black oil in Anbar Governorate, and arrest a number of those involved in forging exemption letters for more than 260 brick factories (fictitious) for the purpose of supplying government-subsidized black oil," revealing that "the list of those wanted by the judiciary is about 70 people - between government employees and private sector employees - on the same criminal charges, and crimes related to public money and the seizure of residential lands will be revealed later."
